About the Client

Messe Projekt GmbH is a German-based company specializing in exhibition stand design and logistics across major trade fairs in the EU. Their platform MyStand Configurator allows companies  to configure modular stands, but the client wanted to enhance the experience with modern visual tools and better backend logic.

Our task was to validate the feasibility of a modern 3D web-based configurator that could:

  • Replace manual AutoCAD work for every client request
  • Allow real-time modifications of stands
  • Generate and update a structured Item List
  • Prepare for future ERP integration with Microsoft Dynamics

Business Context

The client’s current toolchain was built around:

  • Oxid eShop (ERP-based)
  • AutoCAD / OctaCAD (manual drawing and item list generation)
  • Microsoft Dynamics (inventory and logistics)

Despite that, the configurator offered:

  • No WYSIWYG experience
  • No 3D visualization
  • No automation between web UI and backend logistics

This led to wasted time, duplicated effort, and risk of error.

Challenges
Transform complex AutoCAD data into usable 3D geometry on the web
Create editable stand scenes that are performant across browsers
Ensure user actions (like adding furniture or modifying size) updated the underlying item list in real-time
App Functionality
  • Rendered real stand layout in a 3D scene using Three.js
  • Allowed dragging and placing furniture on a grid-aligned surface
  • Enabled real-time dimension changes (width/depth), dynamically updating total sqm
  • Simulated item list updates based on configuration
  • Added logic to change colors and textures of elements (e.g., flooring, graphics on walls)
  • Camera movement & zoom controlled to avoid disorientation

Solution

We developed a focused Three.js-based PoC that demonstrated:

Dynamic rendering of stands with multiple variants
User interaction with scene (drag & drop, object filtering, etc.)
Item List synchronization with front-end actions
Project Results
  • Proved technical feasibility of AutoCAD → Web → ERP pipeline
  • Established a scalable approach for rendering and editing modular stands
  • Delivered a functional product that worked on desktop and tablet
